To travel, Is to learn.
Mtwara is in the southeastern part of Tanzania. It has never been a region that interested me enough to want to visit, I think because there is not much tourism advertisements of the place and I do not know anyone coming from there. It is only by work obligations that has brought me to this region and I am so glad that has happened.
Today evening I was bored and I did not want to spend the rest of my day in the hotel. I do not know much about this place, so I reached out to you guys on Instagram to get a couple of recommendations. I have to say, you guys are better than google ☺; one of you suggested to go visit the Mikindani bay and I quickly jumped on that idea.
In my few hours there, I got to learn that Mikindani was once a slave trade centre, and also the stopping point for Dr. David Livingstone before his final journey in central Africa. I wish I came a bit earlier in the day to explore more of this beautiful place, however, I am happy of the experience so far and I hope to come back again.
Here are some highlights of the evening in pictures;
This weighs 100kg, the slaves had to carry it to determine who was strong enough to do manual labour.
