A Day At The Elephant Orphanage

An elephant never forgets.

wo days ago, I went to visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Nairobi, where they raise orphaned elephants and rhinos. Supporting causes that preserve wildlife is very important as it helps to save animals and in this way, we get to be part of the fight to eradicate poaching in Africa.

The Orphanage has a tight visiting schedule that start from 11am to 12noon on a daily. The price is quite reasonable, they charge 500KES per person (the contribution goes to funding the project). Other ways the project collects funds is through their gift shop, donations and fostering an orphan elephant.

I only managed to see elephants, they were quite young but it is nice to know they are in good care and in an environment where they will grow to be strong and healthy.

During the session, the instructor gives a brief history of the elephants and people get to ask questions. It is a nice interactive session and a good way to learn and get more information.
